Salary:

  • $20.43 per hour (Officer)
  • $19.23 per hour (Trainee)

Essential Functions:

  • Patrol: Safeguard university property by enforcing laws, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Respond: Handle incidents and situations with clear judgment, following department policies and applicable laws.
  • Serve: Build relationships with community members, promoting public safety goals through positive engagements, preventative patrols and timely responses to accidents, incidents, crimes, and disturbances.

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship: Applicants must be United States citizens.
  • One year of relevant experience in general law enforcement
  • Completion of a basic law enforcement training program recognized by the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission
  • Applicants must be a United States Citizen and at least 21 years of age.
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license (corrected vision acceptable) upon employment
  • First Aid and CPR certification necessary within one year after employment.
  • Must complete a basic law enforcement training program recognized by the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission before being given permanent status.
  • At the time of appointment, the candidate must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services.
  • This class requires the use of a firearm for law enforcement duties and therefore, candidates cannot have been convicted of, and must be free of any diversions from a felony or misdemeanor domestic violence crime as set forth in 18 U.S.C 922 (d) (9) and (g) (9).
  • Attend 40 hours of in-service training each year after certification.
  • Good physical health and must be able to fulfill all requirements for admission to an accredited Kansas Law Enforcement Training Academy.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Thorough working knowledge of local, state, and federal law, and university rules and regulations
  • Ability to make reports in written form in a clear and concise manner
