TCOLE Certified / Lateral Officer
POLICE OFFICER LATERAL ENTRY PROGRAM
Must have 3 years continuous service as a paid full-time peace officer. Two years must be patrol experience handling a full array of police work enforcing laws, investigating crimes, making arrests, and carrying a firearm.
Must currently be employed with a Municipality, Sheriff’s Office, or Department of Public Safety that meets these requirements.
The city/area you serve must have a population of at least 50,000 people and the department must have a minimum of 60 officers.
No pending disciplinary actions or investigations for misconduct/criminal activity.
Out of state Officers must possess a TCOLE license.
The Chief of Police or designee will determine if you meet these requirements.

- Submit a Personal History Statement and Preliminary Interview Packet
- Preliminary Interview
- Oral Board
- Psychological Exam
- Medical and Drug Screen
- Final Interview with the Chief or his designee
Lateral police officer applicants starting salary will be based their training and experience.

Advanced TCOLE Cert – $100 month Bachelor’s Degree $75/month SWAT $100/month
