Position Requirements:Summit County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a well-qualified Sergeant for two open positions. This position works with the co-responder team in the Support Services Division.

The Sergeant is a first-line supervisor that typically answers to, and works under the leadership of a Lieutenant. The Sergeant is responsible for managing a work group ensuring compliance with department policies and procedures while adhering to statutory obligations and case law for criminal and non-criminal cases. Sergeants are expected to have an understanding of modern principles, methods, and procedures of law enforcement supervision and organization, and have a strong understanding of supervisory span of   control, leadership, and group dynamics. Sergeants perform all the duties of a SMART Technician as well as supervise, coordinate, and guide Sheriff’s Office employees in their daily activities.

Expectations of the Chosen Candidate: The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented professional, skilled and competent in the application of the technical aspects of this role, problem solving, and providing superior customer support in response to internal and external requests and calls for service. The candidate will be highly detail-oriented and accurate in work product. The selected candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to quickly absorb and understand unfamiliar subject matter.

Required Qualifications: Must be POST certified and have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in Patrol. Experience may be combined with other agency experience. Working knowledge of community organizations and behavioral health resources. Must be 21 years of age. Off any probationary period and not currently involved in any disciplinary action. Valid Colorado Driver’s License at time of appointment and throughout employment. Must be able to pass a background check, psychological examination, polygraph examination and obtain a security clearance for work with Criminal Justice Records. External candidates proceeding in the process will be required to complete a Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy Application.

Pay Range: ST90 (non-exempt employee) Salary of $90,502.00 to $121,458.00 DOQ. A County and Sheriff’s Office sign-on bonus, a wellness benefit, an education reimbursement, and excellent benefits.
