Sergeant I
Position Summary:
The Sergeant supervises the activities and assigned duties of patrol level police officers. These functions will also include the protection of life and property, preservation of the peace, furnishing of various services to enhance and support efficient operations within the university community.
Essential Functions:
- 20% – Provide supervision to police officers assigned to the scheduled shift; • Assign police officers daily duties and activities. • Inspect officer’s equipment and appearance during each shift. • Report to scene of serious incidents or accidents;
- 20% – Provides services for the prevention of illegal, unsafe or undesirable activity from occurring on University property or during University activities;
- 30% – Provides Enforcement of all University, City, State and Federal law as it applies to keeping order at the University;
- 15% – Manages the traffic issues on and around university property;
- 10% – Rendering of service to University as established by departmental policy and procedures;
- 5% – Other Duties within Divisional Responsibility;
Requirements:
- At least 21 years of age.
- Valid Driver’s license.
- Citizen of the United States of America.
- Qualifies for acceptance for Kentucky Law Enforcement Council basic police training program and/or certification as a police officer under Kentucky Statues.
- Persons that qualify for police officer certification under Kentucky Statue and are graduates of the Police Basic Training program may be given preference.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of Police Training Officer Course and Academy of Police Supervision after appointment (KACP 14.2).
- Minimum of four (4) years of sworn law enforcement experience.
- Minimum three (3) years as a sworn EKU Police Officer.
