Public Safety Officer
Position Summary:
The Fisher College Police Department is seeking a public safety officer to support the overall mission of the College and to provide security and related public safety services for the protection of Fisher College, students, staff, and visitors and assets at the College.
Essential Functions:
- Patrols campus properties by foot to deter crime and to observe and report unsafe conditions and/or suspicious activity immediately when assigned to patrol functions.
- Responds to administrative and emergency calls for service within the campus patrol area.
- Provides first responder medical assistance and directs advanced medical personnel as necessary.
- Renders assistance to those in need and has the knowledge and ability to make referrals to available campus resources as applicable.
- Provides and restricts access to college facilities by conducting locking and unlocking operations as needed.
- Authors well written and highly detailed incidents reports.
- Demonstrates the ability to analyze emergency situations and quickly develop incident action plans to mitigate such incidents.
- Maintains compliance with department policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Engages in Community Policing by providing a variety of services along with offering assistance and being a resource for members of the Fisher College Community
- Works in collaboration with the Dean of Students office when incidents are referred for judicial considerations.
- Provides information to the general public and community members while promoting positive police community relations.
- Works closely with municipal police and fire agencies in the interest of fostering a cooperative and coordinated effort in matters of campus safety and security.
- Works closely with the community in an effort to enhance public safety at Fisher College, with specific emphasis on crime prevention and awareness.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or state-authorized equivalent
- Highly efficient oral and written communications skills.
- Applicants must be at least twenty-one (21) years old at time of application.
- All Candidates must have a valid Massachusetts Class D operator’s license at time of appointment.
- Must possess and maintain first responder and CPR certifications.
- Must possess the ability to work in all types of weather conditions, shift assignments, and holiday.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Knowledge of problem-solving methods and ability to become familiar with the operating procedures of various Fisher College departments such as Residence Life, Student Affairs, IT, Facilities and others with whom constant interaction is required.
- Strong technology skills in the use of the Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS), alarm access control and monitoring system, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

- Candidates should display comfort and expertise working in a highly diverse, multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment.
- Must be in good mental and physical condition
- Candidates are subject to psychological evaluations and drug testing, and fitness for duty examinations as may from time to time be prescribed by the Chief of Police or their designee
- A history of lawful conduct unabridged by any criminal activity at any time, regardless of current criminal record.
Preferred Requirements:
- Associate degree in criminal justice or related field
- Security or other related public safety experience of at least one year is strongly preferred
