Public Safety Dispatcher I
Salary: $20.56 To $34.26 Hourly
Position Summary:
This is general law enforcement and firefighting work dedicated to the protection of life and/or property. Work performed involves an element of personal danger. Employees work under general supervision following a period of field training and may be assigned to work in the Patrol Division, in the Fire Division, on special assignments, or as an investigator or Crime Prevention Officer assigned to the Criminal Investigation’s Division. Employees are accountable to and evaluated by supervisors who review work methods and results through observation, reports, inspection, and discussion. This position will be assigned to the law enforcement division, with cross training in the fire division as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Working knowledge of the principles, procedures, and equipment used in law enforcement and firefighting.
- Ability to develop and exhibit knowledge of modern principles, practices and procedures of police and fire suppression work.
- Knowledge of Patrols areas of the city in a vehicle or on foot to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover the commission of crime, and to enforce motor vehicle and parking regulations and correct traffic hazards.
- Answers, calls and complaints received by radio, telephone, or in person involving emergencies, disorder, crime, and fire.
- May be assigned to the School Resource Programs, which entails developing and presenting educational programs to students in the school system.
- Conducts police related community awareness and public relations work.
- Interviews persons with complaints or inquiries, take statements and tends to proper disposition of the information or direct them to the proper authorities.
- Conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence and locate witnesses.
- Makes arrests and/or takes prisoners to jail.
- Visits crime scenes, searches for and preserves evidence, investigates clues, and searches for and apprehends violators.
- Ensures that prisoners are charged, processed, and confined.
- Composes written reports.
- Appears in court to present evidence and/or testify as required.
- Conducts specialized investigations.
- May administer basic first aid.
- Attends in service training and practices use of firearms.
Requirements:
- United States Citizen
- 21 years of age
- Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- NO felony or domestic abuse-related convictions
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Computer operation skills
- Mental and physical ability to perform all essential functions of a police officer
- Officers are not required to reside within the Augusta city limits.
