Public Safety 911 Dispatcher
Salary: $61,193 – $66,872
Position Summary:
To perform a variety of duties involved in the receipt and dispatch of incoming emergency 911 calls for police, emergency medical and fire services and other emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance. Dispatches public service units as necessary and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Uses computer integrated telecommunications systems to coordinate emergency calls. Relays information and assistance requests involving other law enforcement and/or fire department agencies. Receives and processes requests for information in the Connecticut On-Line Law Enforcement
Communications Teleprocessing (COLLECT) system and from the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer databases. Monitors communication center security equipment, internal and external security cameras and reports and logs suspicious acts, persons and events. Process public safety provider requests for wrecker and transportation services; perform other duties as assigned. Requirements:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent;
- Must have effective oral, written and interpersonal skills.
- Successfully pass a background investigation, to include fingerprinting conducted by the Branford Police Department.
- Candidates must currently hold a State of CT Telecommunicator Certification; (or similar out of state certification) a COLLECT/NCIC certification, an Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification (EMD) within one year of being hired.
- Candidate must expect to report to work during periods of bad weather and natural disasters and be available as needed.
