Salary: $55,682 – $88,774

This is responsible professional and technical work related to organizing division assignments, evaluating training programs, conducting training classes and project management work for the Police Department. Work includes processing officer and instructor certifications; processing requests for both internal and external training classes; facilitating training classes, including department in-service training and Police Cadet physical fitness instruction and evaluation; assisting the department’s supervisory personnel in the determination of training needs and methods; and serving as liaison with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Southeastern Public Safety Institute, and local Law Enforcement Academies and training centers. Work involves maintaining the Police Department training database and expenditures; reviewing and auditing files and supporting documents to ensure FDLE compliance; and assisting in the coordination of the Police Department’s promotional process, including scheduling, production of written documents, and maintenance of confidential records. An employee in this class may be asked to complete special projects; must exercise a high degree of professional discretion and tact when handling sensitive or confidential information or records; must be knowledgeable of various department activities and policies and procedures, including finance, public safety related activities, equipment, and materials; and may exercise latitude and judgment in daily operations.

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Have a valid Bachelor’s degree with major course work in an appropriate field of study which may include education, human resources, criminal justice, business, public administration, communications, social services or a related field.
  • Have a valid Driver License.
  • Have prior experience coordinating, evaluating, and/or facilitating training programs.
  • Be able to communicate effectively, clearly, and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Be proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have previous law enforcement or public safety training experience.
