Position Summary:

The Police Sergeant supervises subordinate officers and agents and maintains the chain of command within the operations of the department. Furthermore, the Police Sergeant develops training programs for department personnel and ensures the safety and security of all staff, students, and general public on University property and grounds.

Essential Functions:

  • Alternative patrol and program management
  • Complaint intake during duty hours
  • Event planning as assigned
  • Inspection reports
  • Interagency liaison
  • Off duty and overtime scheduling as assigned
  • Training coordinator
  • University of Miami Office of Emergency Management liaison

Requirements:

  • Law Enforcement Certification
  • Minimum 3 years as a police officer with the University of Miami Police Department.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 5 years of consecutive management/supervisory experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
