The Fort Pierce Police Department (FPPD) Sponsorship/Cadet Program provides an opportunity for uncertified individuals to be sponsored by FPPD to attend the Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Training Academy.

Individuals interested in becoming an FPPD officer that does not have their Florida Department of Law Enforcement State Officer Certification will be given the opportunity, under general supervision, to obtain valuable law enforcement work experience. The uncertified officer will be required to learn relevant skills in traffic control, investigations, police reports, public safety, and community engagement. The uncertified officer will be responsible for successfully participating in training programs and activities that will introduce them to the fundamentals of law enforcement in preparation for attending the required training and education through The Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Training (Police Academy) to become a prospective FPPD Officer.

The Police Academy prepares the uncertified officer to become an entry-level law enforcement officer in the State of Florida. The classroom instruction is regulated by the Florida statutes and is a highly structured and disciplined program. Upon successful completion of the Basic Training Program, an uncertified officer is eligible to take and must pass the Florida Department of Law Enforcement State Officer Certification exam.
