Salary: $26.11 – $35.32 / Hour.

Essential Functions:

  • Patrol county to maintain law and order, prevent and discover commissions of crime, and enforce motor vehicle laws.
  • Answer a wide variety of calls for service, including but not limited to collision and crime report calls, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons/vehicles, trouble calls, etc.
  • Provide assistance at other emergencies including fires, squad calls and natural disasters; may administer first aid.
  • Assume control of evidence at the scene of an accident or crime, pending further investigation.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, identify witnesses, make arrests, take prisoners into custody; and when necessary, testify in court for traffic, criminal, and civil matters.
  • Check the premises of residences and buildings to detect any suspicious activity.
  • Issue citations or warnings to traffic violators.
  • Direct traffic as necessary.
  • Interview complainants, witnesses, suspects, and prisoners to obtain information about a crime.
  • Maintain records, prepare reports, and perform other necessary clerical or administrative duties.
  • Perform civic functions by providing crime prevention information through various programs.
  • Enforce local, state, and federal laws.
  • Maintain rapport with other police departments and law enforcement units.
  • Operate standard police equipment including but not limited to: Intoxilyzer, radar, radio, and laptop computer.
  • Perform any other clerical or administrative duties as required.

Requirements:

  • At the time of application, applicants for the position of police officer shall possess a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and three (3) years of work experience, or sixty (60) semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university, or be a high school graduate with at least two (2) years of active military duty or two (2) years of experience as a full-time, sworn law enforcement officer.
  • Resident of the Commonwealth of Kentucky;
  • At least 21 years of age; and
  • Discreet and sober person
