Police Officer Pre-Certified (In-State)

Essential Functions:
- Operate an assigned patrol vehicle; patrol assigned areas of the county for traffic and criminal violations; respond to citizen calls, complaints, and requests for information; conduct victim, witness and suspect interviews; prepare detailed police reports; make arrests; testify in court; interact with community groups and organizations; perform other police patrol operations in the field as assigned and needed.
Requirements:
- Possess a current Virginia law enforcement certification or have relinquished certification within two years preceding date of hire.
- Must have completed one consecutive year of sworn service upon completion of a field training program.
- Must have left former agency in good standing to be considered.
- High school diploma or GED;
- Must be a US citizen;
- Successful applicants must pass a physical agility test, possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver’s license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months;
- Binocular vision of 20/25 corrected; weight in proportion to height; no conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors; no conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest pleas to: misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including petit larceny; any misdemeanor sex offense; or any domestic assault; pass an extensive background investigation which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening.
- Pre-certified officers will attend an abbreviated 14-week academy and will receive a full field training experience to maximize assimilation and familiarization, emphasizing Chesterfield County Police Department philosophy, policies, and procedures.
