The Mountain Brook Police Department is currently accepting applications for entry level, APOST Certified, and lateral transfer police officer positions in order to maintain a list of qualified personnel to fill present and future openings within the Department. We are a Department with 66 sworn officer positions. Our Mission is to serve the community by protecting life and property; by preventing crime; by enforcing the law; and by maintaining order while safeguarding Constitutional guarantees for all. These values are the foundation upon which our policies, goals, and operations are built. The City of Mountain Brook is located in the Jefferson County, Alabama and is considered one of the best places to live and work.

Hourly salary – $22.73 – $33.58 (Depending on years of service and higher education. We also offer up to 15% premium for selected specialty positions)

Benefits:
12 Hour Shifts – which means only working three days one week and four days the next in our two week pay period. This gives 84 hours and equates to 6 hours of overtime per pay period.
Every other Saturday off

Uniforms and weapons (handgun & rifle) provided
Education incentive pay – 5% for Associates & 10% additional pay for Bachelor’s Degree in fields related to law enforcement.
Encourages Officers to seek out additional training which is compensated if authorized
We offer tuition reimbursement for officers looking to acquire an Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in a law enforcement related field of study

Requirements:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must possess a high school diploma/GED
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Alabama driver’s license
  • Must not have any felony or serious misdemeanor convictions
  • Entry level and Lateral transfer applicants must be able to pass a physical abilities test

Hiring Process:

  • If entry level or transfer applicant – must pass physical abilities test
  • Submit a completed application/background packet
  • Initial interview
  • Successfully complete a CVSA examination
  • Pass a panel interview with what would be your peers/supervisors
  • Pass an extensive background check which includes but not limited to a criminal and driver’s history check
  • Command Staff Interview
  • Should a Condition of hire be given, applicants must pass a psychological evaluation, general physical exam, and drug screening all of which are paid for by the Mountain Brook Police Department
