Salary: $43,232-$50,861.

Position Summary:

The person in this position is responsible for handling law enforcement matters throughout the district as enumerated in the G.I.S.D. Police Department “Procedures Manual”, Board of Trustees Policies and applicable national, state, and local laws.

Essential Functions:

  • Patrol assigned campus and respond to all calls from local school principal, or designee, regarding crisis situations.
  • Escort district personnel in potentially hostile situations and assist staff with after hour functions upon their request
  • Write effective, legal incident reports, collect evidence as necessary for supporting criminal investigations, and apprehend offenders.
  • File appropriate criminal charges with the proper agency and conduct investigations when deemed
    necessary based on sound information concerning an alleged criminal offense.
  • Enforce all laws of felony and misdemeanor degree of federal, state, or local origin and enforce all
    rules and regulations promulgated by the G.I.S.D Board of Trustees.
  • Investigate motor vehicle traffic accidents and stop and identify suspicious persons and/or vehicles.
  • Assist administrators and staff with domestic complaints or complaints concerning unauthorized.
    persons on campus and assist other police agencies concerning criminal investigations when requested
  • Assist the Transportation Dept. with problem bus stop areas and/or chronic disruptions on school buses
    upon their request.
  • Take such other actions within the guidelines set forth in the “Procedures Manual” as deemed necessary in order to fulfill objectives in manual and proficient operating of computer records systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Chief of Police or designee.

Requirements:

  • A current Texas Peace Officer’s license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
  • Five (5) years of full-time paid peace officer employment preferred.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with youth as well as adults.
  • Demonstrate ability to write an effective, correct, and legally complete offense report in English language.
  • Hold current valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license.
  • Must pass the drug screen, physical exam and psychological/emotional health testing evaluation.
  • Be able to work under adverse conditions and during unusual hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Currently and successfully qualified with a duty firearm.
  • Pass a background review and interview board.
  • Successfully complete the Field Training Program and Probation period.
  • Must be willing to cover after school events.
  • Must complete School Based Law Enforcement Course (SBLE) within 6 months of appointment.
