Police Officer

Position Summary:

This position is a member of the patrol division that involves working in the Dobson Community. This position reports directly to the Chief of Police.

Essential Functions:

• Responsibilities will include but are not limited to proactive patrol of Dobson corporate limits utilizing community policing methods;
• Maintenance of open communication with supervisors and other officers by oral and written reports; conduct and/or assist others in investigations, traffic control, and event security;
• Protect property and provide public safety services; accurately record information on standard forms and incident reports; testify in legal proceedings; perform basic law enforcement duties with the capability to exercise considerable judgment in application of local, state, and federal laws. Duties will include but are not limited to protecting lives and property of citizens through active patrol;
• Responding to calls for assistance, complaints, and suspicious activity; performs initial investigations of accidents and possible crime; arrests and processes criminal suspects.

Requirements:

• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.
• 3 or more years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer is preferred.
• Acceptable background reports.
• Negative drug screen results.
