Salary: $136,198.00 – $177,058.00 Annually

Position Summary:

Highly responsible administrative and supervisory position; exercises command over all activities relating to respective Divisions of the Police Department; occasionally will perform work as those supervised.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Police Major; performance is evaluated by observation, written and oral reports and is based upon observable results of set objections

Essential Functions:

  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the activities of all personnel assigned to their respective division of the police department.
  • Evaluates assigned personnel for efficiency and effectiveness; initiation and approval of personnel actions of hiring, promotions, transfers, discipline, and terminations.
  • Reviews reports prepared by subordinates for accuracy, completeness and appropriateness of disposition.
  • Enforces compliance with Departmental Policy, Procedures, Rules and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Conducts special investigations on complaints made by the public against inappropriate police behavior; recommends and/or initiates disposition.
  • Periodically conducts inspections of personnel, uniforms, equipment and vehicles.
  • As directed by the Major, rewriting and updating of procedures for day-today patrol and investigative coordination.
  • Assigns new police officers and reserve officers
  • Participates in briefings of personnel, appraises as to changes in departmental procedures and rules.
  • Assists the Chief of Police in formulating policy, procedures and establishes Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P.’s).
  • Performs all work within the confines of safety rules and regulations of the City of Homestead.
  • May testify in court.
  • Assists in preparation of annual department budget and ensures administration of such budget by compliance with accepted accounting/financial practices.
  • May conduct special investigations on complaints made by the public against inappropriate police behavior; recommends and/or initiates disposition.
  • May represent the Police Department to local civic and community groups.
  • Must meet requirements of periodic in-service training and weaponry qualifications.
  • Participates in briefing personnel, apprises as to change in departmental procedures and rules.

Requirements:

  • Nine years of experience with at least three years of experience as a Police Supervisor.
  • Must meet requirements of State Police Minimum Standards as authorized in F.S. 943.13.14.
  • Must meet the requirements of periodic in-service training and weaponry qualification.
  • Must hold a valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Ability to manage an effective police organization.
  • Possess good physical conditioning as evidenced by the ability to pass a class “A” physical examination.
