Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the supervision and general management of an assigned division of the Police Department.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides overall supervision for all sworn and non-sworn personnel assigned to the division; coordinates and provides staff training.
  • Ensures division compliance with all departmental rules and regulations.
  • Evaluates division productivity and employee performance; researches, develops and implements strategies for improvement.
  • Assigns personnel to shifts and/or units to ensure adequate coverage for division operations.
  • Ensure that all personnel remain informed of new policies, procedures, court rulings, and special operations; issues related to memoranda.
  • Maintains division files and records.
  • Prepares and monitors the division budget.
  • Prepares a variety of regular and special reports.
  • Attends seminar and training as required.
  • Performs the duties of a Police Officer as needed; responds to calls for service; patrols the city to detect and deter crime; issues citations and makes arrests.
  • Directs patrol operations as assigned; reviews and analyzes trends and statistics in order to develop patrol strategies; directs and supervises patrol operations; responds to complex or high-profile events and assumes command until relieved by a superior officer; performs patrols functions as required; directs the School Resource Officer program.
  • Performs other assigned duties.

Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field required.
  • More than five years of related experience required.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.
