Police Cadet

Salary: $25.13 – $27.71 Hourly

Position Summary:

This is a part-time position intended to provide the individual who is considering a career in law enforcement with the opportunity to perform a variety of tasks assisting various members of the Police Department in the performance of their duties. The Police Cadet may be assigned to any of the Bureaus or Divisions of the Department and may be rotated on a regular basis to provide enhanced experience with the various aspects of law enforcement.

Essential Functions:

• The Police Cadet may be assigned to any of the Bureaus or Divisions of the Department and may be rotated on a regular basis to provide enhanced experience with the various aspects of law enforcement.
• Participation in the apprenticeship program is limited to a maximum of six (6) years or until age 23 (may be extended to age 24 at the discretion of the Police Chief).

Requirements:

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade;
• Must be between 18 and 23 years of age;
• Possess a valid California Driver’s License and maintain a reasonable driving record for qualification of coverage under the City’s regular insurance policy;
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university with a class load of at least twelve (12) semester units in classes approved by the Chief of Police (grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4-point scale).
