The Kendall County Sheriff Merit Commission is establishing an eligibility list for:



  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or an alien admitted for permanent residence or lawfully admitted for temporary residence who produces evidence of intention to become a citizen of the United States
  • Driver’s License: Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s license upon hiring
  • Age Requirements: Be twenty-one (21) years of age. An applicant may apply at age twenty (20), provided that no applicant shall be eligible for employment certification until their 21st birthday. There is no maximum age
  • Education: Must have a High School Diploma or have a certification of equivalency
  • Character: Must have no felony convictions, nor domestic violence criminal convictions, nor any misdemeanor conviction involving moral turpitude (50 ILCS 705/6), nor dishonorable discharge (U.S. Army RE-4 separation classification or equivalent) from the military
  • Eyesight: Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20, free of color and night blindness
  • Testing: Must be able to participate and successfully complete all phases of the testing which includes a written examination, oral interview, psychological evaluation, medical test, integrity test and background investigation which includes a polygraph
  • P.O.W.E.R. Test: successfully pass a Police Officer’s Wellness Evaluation Report test and provide a P.O.W.E.R. card as required by the Commission for eligibility for appointment as a Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Operations Division

NOTE: P.O.W.E.R. Card is not required at the time of the written exam, however, candidates must possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. card dated between 09/01/21 and 11/01/22.

Are you already an IL Full Time Certified Law Enforcement Officer? If so, we encourage you to apply at this time for a separate eligibility list. The process and testing dates are the exact same with the exception that no P.O.W.E.R Card is needed. Depending on years of service salary rates may differ.

**PLEASE NOTE: The information collected at the time of sign-up is all that will be required at this time. An application will NOT be provided at time of sign-up. A formal application/background will be provided upon successfully passing the interview. **

$70,232.12 – Salary after one (1) year of employment
