Position Summary:

Position is assigned and performs Patrol/Administrative supervision of all Police Officers. Ensures that all the laws of the United States, the State of Colorado, and the City of Federal Heights are equally and fairly enforced to all citizens. Ensures that all requests for service are acted upon without delay.

Essential Functions:

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the work activities of all assigned subordinates
  • Participates in the selection of staff; plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the training activities of subordinate staff
  • Establishes schedules and methods for areas of assignment
  • Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives
  • Supervises and if needed, personally conducts complete and detailed investigations of general and specialized crimes
  • Coordinates and supervises multi-officer investigations
  • Reviews completed work of all staff to ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  • Supervises and participates in all shift duties and investigations including enforcing state and local laws, issuing citations, making arrests, providing first aid, transporting prisoners, gathering evidence, questioning witnesses/suspects, and apprehending suspects
  • Participates in budget preparation and administration by preparing cost estimates for budget recommendations, submitting justifications for needed equipment and materials, and monitoring and controlling expenditures
  • Receives complaints/reports from citizens and employees alike and conducts administrative reviews when necessary
  • Contacts and cooperates with other police agencies in matters relating to the investigation of crimes and the apprehension of offenders
  • Work any post, assignment, or shift to support the 24-hour per day, 7-day-a-week operation. This includes nights, weekends, and holidays; and when the need arises, adjust their schedule to accomplish a mission or operational need

Requirements:

  • POST Certified Colorado Peace Officer
  • A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience as a sergeant or higher over a patrol law enforcement function or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Physical fitness to perform the functions of the job.
  • No felony convictions
  • Must pass thorough background investigation including drug screen, voice stress analysis, psychological evaluation, review of driving record and pre-employment (post job offer) physical examination.
  • Valid Colorado Drivers License and good driving record
  • Successful applicants for all positions must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check. Police and Fire Department positions require additional pre-employment testing.
