Position Summary:

Performs work by carrying out community service through public service and community policing; protecting Town of Jackson citizens and visitors; enforcing laws, investigating and preventing crime; patrolling assigned areas; responding to disturbances and calls for service; conducting searches; proactively seeking out and investigating suspicious activities; apprehending and detaining suspects. Performs related work as apparent or assigned.
Work is performed under the limited supervision of Sergeant.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides community service; disseminates information; assists citizens and guests of the community; serves as an ambassador for the community, for the Town organization and for the institution of law enforcement; implements community policing through initiative and directives.
  • Prevents crime; explains and enforces applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinances; utilizes preventive, protective and defensive tactics; mediates disputes; patrols assigned areas; responds to notices of disturbances; conducts searches; performs traffic law enforcement; proactively seeks out and investigates suspicious activities.
  • Ensures proper care and operation of equipment; completes preventative maintenance requirements; follows manufacturers’ instructions; troubleshoots malfunctions; notifies supervisor of needed repairs; evaluates new equipment and techniques.
  • Conducts investigations; gathers evidence; interviews victims and witnesses; detains and interrogates suspects; makes arrests; responds to complaints and calls for help; observes violations.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge; studies applicable laws and ordinances; attends educational workshops; reviews professional publications; participates in professional societies; obtains applicable certifications when authorized.
  • Documents all elements of response, investigation, apprehension and action; completes investigative and informational reports as necessary; testifies in court; executes court orders by serving warrants.


  • US citizenship.
  • 21 years of age upon completion of the Police Academy.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • For lateral applicants, typical qualifications in addition to those above would be equivalent to: certified peace officer status, an Associate Degree or two years of college level coursework, and three years of experience as a peace officer.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a Wyoming Peace Officer certification and Spanish language fluency.
