Full-Time Police Officer – Entry Level
The Board of Fire & Police Commissioners is accepting applications for an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer. Once created, the eligibility list will be in effect for 2 years. At the time of the last date for filing of application, individuals must not have attained 35 years of age, except as otherwise provided by Statute. At the time of appointment, individuals must have attained 21 years of age.
Applicants must successfully complete the following: physical fitness test, written exam, and oral interview. Applicants must also satisfy all other statutory requirements. Physical fitness exam may be waived for current sworn officers of a law enforcement agency in Illinois. Must provide proof of IL certification with returned Application for Employment & Essential Functions for Police Officer paperwork.
All benefits are established by the collective bargaining agreement. Effective May 1, 2023, starting base rate is $27.91 per hour ($58,053) and increases to $28.59 per hour ($59,467) upon completion of law enforcement training.
Benefits include personal days, vacation days, sick days, health & life insurance, police pension, overtime for all hours worked over 40 per week, overtime for working on holidays, etc.
Residency Requirements: All employees hired by the City of Olney are required, as a condition of their employment with the City, to have their place of abode within one of the following counties within 1 year from the date of hiring and thereafter for the life of their employment with the City: Richland, Clay, Jasper, Crawford, Lawrence, Wabash, or Wayne. If an employee lives outside of City limits, certain requirements apply.
