FT – Telecommunicator
Salary: $22.08 Hourly
Position Summary:
Under general supervision has responsibility for answering multiple incoming phone lines, dispatching calls, including operating the 9-1-1 system and use of radio during assigned shift and provide general information to the public. Must be willing and able to work flexible shift, holidays, and weekends as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Reads and transmits telephone and radio messages to and from police and fire department units
- Keeps logs of pertinent information received during the shift
- Handles the 9-1-1 system and assigning case numbers in CAD system
- Receives incoming calls on 9-1-1, the telephone and two-way radio, and takes appropriate action, such as dispatching an officer, ambulance, or fire truck to the scene; recording and providing information
- Maintains radio contact with mobile police units and with other law enforcement officers and agencies
- Notifies the Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, and Care Flite when needed
- Relays information to officers in the field
- Operates computer terminals and tests equipment for proper operation/maintain same in good working order
- Runs driver license, vehicle registrations, wanted, and criminal history checks and logs information to comply with NCIC/TCIC standards
Requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent; OR
- At least 6 months of equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
