Emergency Dispatcher
Salary: $16 per hour.
Position Summary:
Dispatching involves receiving, screening and dispatching of police/fire/medical emergency and non-emergency calls and complaints received from the general public by personal contact, telephone, fax and email. The successful dispatcher must possess a variety of skills in dealing with all types of people and situations in which lives can literally hinge on what a dispatcher does, and how fast and accurately they react. The Jailer will assist officers in booking inmates into the City of Collinsville Jail and provide daily care and supervision.
Essential Functions:
- Follow department policy and procedures.
- Have the ability to communicate and control distraught, excited and angry callers.
- Be flexible in dealing with people and events.
- Have the ability to control one’s temper even when under considerable provocation.
- Be able to maintain interpersonal sensitivity with all types of situations.
- Observe and recognize unusual or dangerous situation or events.
- Know the geographical area of the dispatch jurisdiction.
- Have a reasonable knowledge of city and state rules and regulations.
- Make inquiries, evaluate, analyze and react in briefest amount of time.
- Have a better than average recall for names, locations, numbers, unusual incidents, etc.
- Stay current of current events of your work jurisdiction and surrounding area.
- Be totally versed and understand completeness of the Enhanced 9-1-1 system.
- Always maintain mental and physical acuity.
- Think clearly and act quickly during stressful emergencies.
- Have knowledge of the Oklahoma Jail Standards manual and apply them to the daily function of the Collinsville City Jail.
Requirements:
- At least eighteen (18) years of age;
- Possess a valid Oklahoma Drivers License;
- Work any shift, including weekends and holidays;
- High School Graduate or GED equivalent and
- Have basic computer skills and knowledge of Word XP.
