District Police Officer I
Position Summary:
Provide for the safety of all students, faculty, and staff and the security of all district and campus property and equipment.
Essential Functions:
1. Enforce laws, including federal and state statutes, and district rules and regulations.
2. Maintains liaison with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, including assisting in the serving of warrants within district boundaries.
3. Respond and investigate any calls on assigned campus concerning security problems.
4. Notify police, fire department, or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate or prompt attention.
5. Prepare offense and incident reports and ensure thoroughness of information contained in police reports.
6. Coordinate with campus administrators and supervisors in obtaining additional security help for special events or assigned campus activities.
7. Actively patrol assigned campus to detect/prevent criminal activity.
8. Respond to all campus disruptions and file appropriate criminal charges.
9. Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.
10. Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates team work in daily activities.
11. Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.
12. Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.
13. Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.
14. Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.
15. Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
Requirements:
1. High school diploma or GED;
2. Hold a valid Texas Peace Officer’s License issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement;
3. General knowledge of criminal investigation, police report writing, and criminal laws;
4. Training in subduing offenders, including use of firearms and handcuffs;
5. Valid Texas driver’s license;
6. At least 2 years’ prior full time experience as a Police Officer;
7. Must have thorough knowledge of the Texas Family Code as it relates to juveniles;
8. Pass required physical, psychological, and drug tests determined by the Chief of Police;
9. Bondable as required by Texas Education Code 37.081(h);
10. Must possess the ability, patience, and appropriate attitude to impact safety, order and discipline by interacting with students and employees of TISD.
