Deputy Sheriff Recruit – Academy Sponsored (extra-hire)
Salary: $70,512.00 Annually
Position Summary:
Under supervision and for a limited duration, to serve in a civilian position, assigned to attend an approved P.O.S.T. certified police academy; to do other related work as required. This classification has been created to offer potential employment opportunities to individuals who are interested in pursuing a career as a Deputy Sheriff with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.
Essential Functions:
- In a trainee capacity, learns under academy staff supervision, all aspects of law enforcement work, such as patrol, answering calls for protection of life and property, conducting preliminary investigations, interrogating witnesses, gathering evidence, taking statements, making arrests, investigating accidents, directing traffic, serving warrants and civil papers, booking and guarding prisoners, and jailer and bailiff duties.
Requirements:
- Equivalent to graduation from high school.
- A polygraph examination and thorough background investigation. The County Medical Consultants shall conduct the psychological testing and medical exam utilizing specification of the State of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
- Shall not have been convicted of a felony in this or any other state or in any federal jurisdiction, or of any offense in any other state or in any federal jurisdiction, which would have been a felony if committed in this state.
- Must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
