Deputy Corrections Officer
Join the Chatham County Detention Center as a Deputy Corrections Officer. Starting Salary is $41,496, with additional pay awarded for any combination of Law Enforcement, Corrections, or Military experience. You will be eligible for advancement opportunities to Jail Training Officer.
Job Summary: Under general supervision, you will perform law enforcement and public safety work and are responsible for the safety and security of the inmates in the custody of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office. You will book, process, search, and seize the personal property of arrestees and new inmates. You will issue uniforms, escort, secure, provide meals to inmates, and maintain shift logs and order in the housing areas. You will respond to assistance calls from other officers and must have the ability to defend yourself. You are required to respond to any location within the jail by running. You will learn first aid and CPR to successfully rescue an unconscious/injured person by moving them to a safe place. At times you will be required to lift up to 50lbs. unassisted. You must follow written and verbal directions, write reports, and perform basic math calculations. You must be able to work 12-hour shifts that rotate every three months (days/nights/weekends/holidays). You must perform multiple tasks calmly and successfully under various degrees of circumstance. The Chatham County Detention Center is a Direct and Indirect Supervision facility. You will supervise the inmates while being in the housing unit and have direct contact with the inmates under your supervision. The position is possibly high-stress and can have verbal and/or physical confrontations. Other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED from an accredited school. Minimum age is 20. Must have vision correctable to 20/20 or 20/40 in each eye. You must complete and pass a physical exam with a medical professional and pass a drug screen and background investigation. You must be able to complete the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Certification for Jail Officer and a Basic Law Enforcement Officer.

Note: During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team. You must sign a conditional written agreement for this position which requires salary reimbursement for voluntary separation within two (2) years of completing P.O.S.T. Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy.
