Position Summary:

This classification provides support to professional Corrections Deputies in maintaining the security and welfare of Adults in Custody (AIC) in the Tillamook County Justice Facility.

This classification performs para-professional duties in the day-to-day operation of the control center. The Corrections Technician has responsibility for the indirect supervision of AIC via central control. This classification is distinguished from the Correction Deputy classification by the lack of daily physical contact with AICs. As such, it does not require DPSST certification.

Essential Functions:

  • Operate the central control system. Monitor and control all movement throughout the facility, including access to the building, to ensure the safety and security of staff and AICs. Monitor AIC housing unit alarms, and alarms at various offices in the facility. Monitor and use radios. Respond appropriately within established protocols to alarms and radio calls. Record various activities in the records management system.
  • Operate the Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer system and in-house records management system.
  • Ability to testify credibly as a witness in court and administrative proceedings.
  • Monitor the activity of floor officers and other corrections staff. Call for back-up when appropriate. Notify officers of unusual circumstances in and around the facility (e.g. disturbances, hazardous situations, odd AIC behavior, etc.)
  • Maintain a concise log of jail activities. Update and maintain records, logs and files; ensure the confidentiality of such. Verify proper identification of AIC visitors; process associated paperwork. Process AIC mail. Within scope of duties, provide assistance to other justice agencies and the public via interpersonal, electronic or telephonic means.
  • Perform additional record keeping and paperwork processing as needed for normal jail operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Preferred experience in Corrections or law enforcement.
  • Must be able to legally work in the U.S. At time of appointment, must possess and maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Within one year of appointment, must possess certifications in LEDS, first aid, and CPR. Skill in speaking Spanish is desired.
