Corrections Officer (Certified) ($8,000 Bonus) – Corrections Department – Jail
Salary: $21.79/hr
Position Summary:
This class is assigned to provide care, custody, movement, and control of inmates.
Essential Functions:
- Patrols housing units to provide care, custody, and control of inmates
- Provides security of inmates, civilians, and staff during visitation, physical recreation, and other inmate movements
- Participates in investigating inmate disciplinary infractions, which includes collecting and preserving evidence, interviewing witnesses and suspects, and securing crime scenes
- Prepares detailed and accurate reports, records, statistics, and/or logs on daily activities
- Responds to emergency situations and renders emergency assistance at accidents and/or catastrophic situations
- Serves criminal warrants and/or other legal documents
- Transports inmates, suspects, and/or applicable individuals to appropriate facilities and/or locations
- Attends court to testify in trials and/or participate in depositions
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), minimum age of 18, and one year of experience performing work as a certified corrections officer/detention deputy; or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
- Criminal Justice Standard and Training Commission (CJSTC) certification
- Florida Department Law Enforcement (FDLE) certification
- Valid driver’s license from state of residence
