Community Service Officer
Salary: $50,946.69 – $61,925.97 Annually
Position Summary:
To perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the Police Department. Under general supervision, performs professional office and field work, including preparation of non-emergency reports involving burglaries, thefts, forgery, fraud, identity theft, non-injury traffic accidents, and other crimes; interviews witnesses and victims; performs preliminary crime scene investigations; performs other related duties as required.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain and disseminate police reports to the public under the supervision of the Records Division. Process and transport court paperwork to the proper locations as needed.
- Books, searches, and maintains safe custody of arrestees.
- Transports prisoners to and from police station, county jail or other facilities.
- Process vehicle releases following proper procedures and policies. Process CHP 180 forms and mail out notices to registered vehicle owners.
- Assist processing and completing Live Scans of sex registrants.
- Respond to requests for assistance or information at the front counter to include writing initial police reports, taking photographs, etc.
- Take telephone reports, with Watch Commander approval, from victims unable to come into the City to contact the police department.
- Parking enforcement. Issue warnings/citations for vehicle code and or municipal code violations.
- Assist Alarm Officer – process alarm cites, mail letters for violations, update cite information into the computer.
- Assist sworn officers with the booking of prisoners and the packaging of property/evidence.
- Traffic control for accidents/special events.
- Sign off mechanical violation cites.
- Perform vehicle abatement duties/audits.
- May assist CSI Investigator with processing crime scenes as needed.
- Enter information into a variety of systems including confidential law enforcement systems.
- Ensure vehicles and work sites are maintained. Schedule vehicle maintenance appointments with vendors. Transport and pickup repaired vehicles.
- Respond to “cold” calls, with Watch Commander approval, where there is no suspect information.
- Any other duties approved by the Watch Commander.
- Appear in court as a result of above noted duties.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record at time of appointment; and
- Experience: One year of experience performing various law enforcement support duties that must have included one of the following primary duties: Considerable time spent issuing warnings and citations to enforce a variety of City or County ordinances, codes and regulations. Investigation of a variety of law enforcement situations such as traffic accidents, runaways, missing persons, vandalism, petty and grand thefts and burglaries.
- Possess a PC. 832 Certification within 1 year of hire.
