Community Resource Officer
Salary: $55,660 to $75,129
Position Summary:
The Community Resource Officer (CRO) serves as a vital link between the police department and the community, fostering a proactive and collaborative approach to public safety and community well-being. This role is designed to build and maintain positive relationships with residents, businesses, and community organizations, while addressing community concerns and enhancing public trust in local law enforcement. This position is also a crucial component of conflict de-escalation and mediation within the community prior to situations rising to the level of criminal activity.
Essential Functions:
- Engage with community members to better understand their concerns and needs. Participate in community meetings, assist with coordinating community events such as Santa Cops, National Night Out, and other activities/community events.
- Identify recurring issues within the community and work on long-term solutions. Mediate conflicts between community members to resolve disputes and improve neighborhood relations before they escalate into criminal activity. Provide animal control services and transportation of unsecured animals to the humane society.
- Support emergency response efforts during crises or major incidents, helping community members as needed.
- Responsible for enforcement of all aspects of city codes related to nuisances, zoning and building codes, as well as other duties as assigned
- Investigate and enforce violations of occupancy, zoning, and land-use. regulations for commercial and residential uses and take follow-up actions as necessary to ensure compliance.
- Abate violations when necessary, including towing of vehicles or arranging for correction of nuisance violations through private contractors.
- Prepare detailed code enforcement investigative reports for the City -Prosecutor and testify in court as required.
- Write reports, chronologies, and citation narratives; maintain daily statistical log.
- Providing professional services by applying the tenets of Responsive, Diligence, Resolute.
Requirements:
- Ability to perform duties that may involve lifting of heavy objects, standing, walking, and driving for extended periods
- Capable of handling stressful situations and responding to emergencies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of local laws, ordinances, and community resources
- Knowledge of basic computer skills
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives and keep accurate records
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing, including use of proper grammar and legible handwriting
- Ability to exercise independence and judgment, receiving general supervision from the Chief of Police
- Education and Experience
- 21 years of age or older
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Valid Colorado driver’s license with acceptable driving history
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience in community policing (preferred but not required), public relations, or social work is advantageous
