Communications Specialist
Salary: $58,000.00 per year.
Essential Functions:
- Produce short- and long-form video content regarding City initiatives, programs, projects, activities, and services with a focus on social platforms.
- Help to produce press releases, news articles, and other long-form informational articles as directed, as well as posters, flyers, mailers, and displays for City initiatives and programs.
- Produce high-quality informational material through videography, photography, and graphic design to inform stakeholders about City projects, decisions, and other pertinent information and/or to educate residents on City processes and other items of interest.
- Work with team to build effective social media strategy through competitive research, platform determination, audience identification, and messaging, and executes upon direction.
- Collaborate with City of Sanford department personnel, as needed, to promote public engagement activities and/or programs.
- Assist with resident engagement and outreach programming to guide, promote, and build excitement for City initiatives, programs, projects, activities, and services.
- Perform related tasks as required.
Requirements:
- Strong proficiency in videography applications including Premier Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign; and bundling video and images for media and print;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an understanding of principles and practices of communications, marketing, and public relations;
- Comprehensive skill in videography and photography, including the preparation of social media posts, graphics, and creating content for social and emerging media;
- Must be able to plan, maintain, and publish according to detailed and strategic cross-channel editorial calendars and syndication schedules;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, employees, the media, and the general public;
- Knowledge of municipal government operations, policies and structures.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with coursework in videography, filmmaking, journalism, marketing, communications, or related field and a minimum of three years of experience in a related field, preferably in the public sector, with a portfolio of completed, successful work.
- Position requires working a flexible schedule based on the City of Sanford’s social media content needs. Must be able to work weekends and some holidays, as needed.
- Personable with on-camera skills for projects and events.
- Must be a strategic thinker and self-starter who is highly skilled at content creation.
