Chief of Police
SUMMARY: The City of Pine Bluff, Arkansas is seeking a proven leader to serve as its Chief of Police. The desired candidate will be an enthusiastic and committed professional for community-oriented policing, and have an outstanding ability to work with and develop teams. The Chief of Police is responsible for planning, organizing and directing activities of the Pine Bluff Police Department to ensure effective enforcement of Laws and Ordinances, protection of lives and property, and initiation of crime prevention endeavors within the community. The Chief of Police works under direction of the Mayor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Chief of Police ensures compliance with policies and procedures by developing and/or overseeing training programs, interpreting policies, monitoring performance, establishing disciplinary procedures and departmental priorities for the enforcement of Laws and Ordinances and develops or monitors departmental priorities. The Chief of Police meets with civic groups and public or private organizations to present information about the Police Department’s activities and/or police related programs, communicates with individual citizens in person and by telephone on a daily basis or as required. The Chief of Police also establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with City officials, other law enforcement officials, community organizations, businesses, employees and general public and serves as the escalatory point of contact for citizen reviews and issues. The Chief of Police attends and participates in City Council meetings, attends conferences, seminars, committee and technical meetings and special events. The Chief of Police develops and oversees staff development activities designed to build and maintain a positive work culture, reviews daily reports from the Deputy Chiefs, develops and implements policies and procedures governing the operation of the Police Department and all other duties assigned.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university and 11-15 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience and a minimum of 5 years of management experience.
