Police Officer Requirements – West Virginia

Minimum Requirements to be a Police Officer in West Virginia

  • Must be at least 21 years of age on date of hire
  • Must be a high school graduate or have a GED
  • Completed Basic Police Training Course
  • Completed Medical History Statement/Medical Examination Report
  • Meet physical or mental condition
  • No drug abuse or narcotics violation case
  • No felony conviction or any crime involving dishonesty, unlawful sexual conduct, physical violence, or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
  • Participate in required in-service training
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Others: Complete written exam, oral interview, an extensive background investigation, medical exam, psychological evaluation, and essential physical skills evaluation
