Purpose

To communicate effectively under any conditions, coordinate and direct a number of simultaneous activities without confusion, provide rapid response to law enforcement or any other emergency needs, and protect fellow officers. To assist the public with practical requests, information and other assistance as needed.

Thinks and acts promptly in emergencies, analyzes situation quickly and accurately and takes or suggests an effective course of action. Obtains, interprets, classifies, and prioritizes pertinent information for business and non-emergency calls, regarding complaints, reports, and inquiries from the general public by various methods. Maintains up-to-date security clearance, TCIC-NCIC, TLETS-NLETS, Interpol certifications. Dispatches officers to situations requiring police response. Maintains records of all police/patrol activities. Monitors CCTV system as directed by police department. Completes appropriate reports. Communicates with area Police, Sheriffs, Fire Department and operates various computer terminals including the CAD, "Computer Aided Dispatch" system. Performs related duties as required Dispatches patrol units and emergency vehicles in coordination with local police department. Operates two-way radio and other communications equipment to dispatch police units and relays instructions or information to remote units. Maintains records of incoming calls for assistance. Communicates with area Police, Sheriffs, Fire Dept and operates various computer terminals including CAD "Computer Aided Dispatch" system. Operates and monitors all radio transmissions on University Police frequencies. Operates two-way radio and other communications equipment to dispatch police units and relays instructions and pertinent information to responding units. Dispatches patrol units and emergency vehicles in coordination with local police department. Maintains records of incoming calls for assistance. Operates, maintains a variety of communications equipment including but limited to; radio consoles, data communication terminals, telephones; all El Paso 911 equipment, Teletype writer Device for the Deaf (TDD/TTY) system; workstation computers, printer(s) system required to record all radio and telephone communiques, all other systems located within the communications center. Must report reports equipment malfunctions to communications manager. Monitors CCTV systems as directed by police dept. Completes appropriate reports. Monitors all University fire and intrusion alarm systems. Provides police personnel information from local, state, and national crime information center. Maintains warrants of arrest and provides to police personnel. Verifies inquiries and requests for authorization into secure areas throughout the university. Will be required to work weekends and evenings, able to work various shifts as assigned.

Required qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). After employment, successful completion of a minimum of 40 hours of training for a police Telecommunications Operator as mandated by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Must be 21 years of age. Knowledge of all Microsoft Office Software and be able to learn and use institutional software systems. Complies with all State and University Policies.

Bilingual-English/Spanish.
