Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
(The following duties are representative of the general functions of the position. They are not intended to represent the entire functional capacity of the position).
Monitors and operates specialized equipment such as the audio-visual electronic control console and touch screen control system, and enters into the computer database system inmate movement within and outside of the jail;
Directs high security and segregated inmate movement via an intercom system to accommodate their constitutionally guaranteed rights such as; showers, recreation, access to legal counsel, etc;
Maintains detailed records to verify inmates were granted these rights;
Addresses inmate rule violations via an intercom system;
Monitors and manages use of all doors, gates, video surveillance monitors and intercom systems using "eye-hand" coordination;
Oversees inmate visits with the public by controlling and coordinating same with physical and electronic control systems including schedules, intercoms, telephones and computers;
Controls issuing, logging, and collection of certain jail keys;
Communicates directly with floor deputies via radio/intercom to assist in performing housing area responsibilities.
Coordinates monitors and operates base radio system and fire alarm system;
Answers the telephone and provides information on inmates and jail-related policies and procedures to law enforcement staff, court officials and the general public or transfers calls to the appropriate authority;
Scans inmate mail and packages for contraband;
Identifies and reports existing and potential safety hazards and security threats, disturbances, and irregularities to the shift supervisor;
Monitors and reports inmate rule violations to deputies, writes disciplinary tickets, documents rule violations and recommends disciplinary action;
Non-exempt staff may be required or requested to work overtime as stipulated by Policy #211.
Maintains a positive, helpful, constructive attitude and working relationship with the department supervisor and departmental employees, other County employees, the public and Elected Officials.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
