Position Information

Position Summary The Campus Police Department has an immediate opening for a Police Officer. This is a full-time non-exempt staff position.

Duties: The police officer is responsible for patrolling campus buildings, grounds, and adjacent areas/properties of the University; enforcing Indiana state laws, city and county ordinances, as well as the rules and policies of the University; providing for the safety, security, and well-being of the University community; investigating crimes and other incidents; restraining and/or arresting suspects when necessary; completing/submitting crime and incident reports; and providing assistance to courts in prosecution of cases. Patrol officers are on call twenty-four hours a day; however, they will have a regular work schedule that will include working some weekends, holidays, and special events.

Required Education/Experience/Skills (Minimum Qualifications)

High school diploma or GED and a valid Indiana operator’s license are required.

 

The applicant must be service-oriented, display a positive attitude, be flexible, have the ability to exercise discretion, and demonstrate a strong moral and ethical character. Applicants should possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

 

The successful completion of a physical exam, psychological evaluation, and physical agility test (if required) are additional conditions of employment.

 

Desired Education/Experience/Skills (Additional Qualifications) ILEA certificate of training and experience as a full-time law enforcement officer in a higher education environment preferred. Law enforcement experience conducting criminal investigations preferred. Some college work and basic computer skills are preferred.
